According to this article on Dreadcentral.com - The Asylum Hunts Moby Dick - Renee has just begun filming a high-tech version of Moby Dick for The Asylum (makers of movies like Jolly Roger - Massacre At Cutter's Cove, Transmorphers, 2012: Supernova, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, Cheerleader Camp, etc. etc. etc

Wow! It's going to be out on DVD in November 2010. So many ROC projects coming out this year and next.

Yeah, it's another B movie but the difference is while AA was directed by Josh Becker who was catering to Bruce Campbell and who initially didn't think Renee would be right for the role, this Moby Dick film is directed by Trey Stokes who IMO seems like a talented guy who is a Renee fan and who might have been the one to recommend Renee for the role or recommended the role to Renee.

Meanwhile, here is the IMDb page for the film. Renee and Barry Bostwick haven't been added to the cast list yet. I wonder what role Renee will be playing in this submarine/whale flick. I hope it's a major one. I'm sure it's Barry Bostwick, not Renee, playing Capt. Ahab.

Thanks for bringing that link to this thread. I couldn't remember where I saw those photos. After the latest news, I'm sure they are photos of Trey directing Moby Dick. Too bad Renee isn't anywhere in the background of those images.

Eek! Well, let's hope for this project, they are aiming higher. After all, they cast Renee and Trey Stokes is directing. I don't know who was in their other films but Renee and Barry Bostwick isn't bad casting.

Could someone tell me what constitues a "B" movie? Barry Bostwick has some serious chops acting-wise (IMO) and Renee, well we all know what she's capable of. So, what makes this a "B" movie? Simply that they aren't "A" list actors?

Please "edumacate" me.

I don't have an "official" definition but it seems to me that B films generally don't have A List actors and have lower budgets. Most but not all sci-fi and horror films are considered B films. Generally, the production values are lower on B films most likely because of the lower budget. Back in the 1930s, 40s and 50s, Universal Studios was the king of B films.

This is exciting! There's a difference between intentional B-movies and unintentional B-movies, though. When you know that the film is cheesy and campy while you're making it, it's usually fun to watch! If it's totally unintentional, it just becomes painful.
Alien Apocolypse was just a cheesy little sci-fi movie (p.s, LOVE how Ren's NASA trained character stood in the back and watched for the majority of the fights!) but it knew that it was a cheesy Bruce Campbell movie, it wasn't trying to be anything more. I think that's what made it watchable. Just my opinion.

I guess if you like cheesy sci-fi films, AA was watchable. While I like sci-fi, I don't like cheesy alien monster type sci-fi. It was the ROC factor that made it watchable for me, at least the scenes ROC was on screen were.

But interesting point about the intentional vs. unintentional B films, littlestagebard. I don't know if all B films are considered cheesy but if a film is going to be cheesy, it's best when they don't take themselves too seriously while filming. That was the cool thing about Xena. At times it was cheesy but it was always done with a little wink to the audience.

The films these Asylum people do don't sound like B-movies to me... more like Z-movies... sigh...

I know that I shouldn't ask why Renée will do such (crappy) films, after Marina Sirtis explained once at a con the gazillion reasons for an actor to do so (location, nothing else to do right now, persons wanting to work with, the studio paying for a plane ticket to visit the brother for Christmas...)

Hey, Moby Dick will first be shown at the Cannes Film Festival in France (as reported by CNN News). Not a bad place to start!

and that will be Renee's first film at Cannes.

Just have to say that I'm SO excited to be here. I was 7 the first time I saw Renee (Follow The River) and then my cousin pulled me into Xena with her. 14years later, I revisited my childhood and fell in love with Renee again! SO excited to be able to talk about her!

I think the question is, which movie will play first? Perhaps we can compare and contrast, although an easy contrast would be one has Renee and the other doesn't.

When I was younger I used to think that a strip mall was a place you had to strip in order to shop, and that flea markets only sold fleas.

And that's the most important difference to me.

I doubt I will watch Universal's remake while I will buy the DVD of Renee's version, especially if that's the only way to see it.

Another difference is I'm sure the Universal remake will have them on a boat while Trey & Renee's version will have them on a submarine.
