I've seen this offer come up twice in the past few weeks. I think it comes up whenever they release an update although I'm not sure exactly when it repeats but I think it repeats pretty regularly. I try to keep the free version of Malwarebytes on all my computers as its handy to have for an infection like AntiVirus Pro 2010 or XP Police Antivirus. Although the infection will try to prevent mbam.exe from running you can just rename mbam.exe to mbam.com or something else (for example it'd be a rare infection that would be looking out to prevent winlogon.exe from running so you can always rename to that and expect that will be allowed to run). If its not already on then you can still download the installer and rename that to get it to run also. Another disinfectant I adore for my XP computers is ComboFix which I download from bleepingcomputers.com. (I always just do a google for ComboFix, click on the bleepingcomputers link in the Results and then scroll down in the tutorial to the bleepingcomputers link to download it.) If the computer is infected and I can get ComboFix running I can pretty much declare victory. There are a couple of annoying things involved in running ComboFix though like it needs you to Pause your anti-virus software (its easy to Pause Avast!) and it makes you install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console (which it makes very easy for you - you have to type a "Y"), but after its finished my computers all feel squeaky clean so I tolerate the few annoyances. Oh and finally it leaves a folder in the root with a name beginning with the letter O which I delete. Some infections don't like ComboFix either and try to keep it from being run but so far renaming it to HaHaHa.exe and copying it over from a USB drive has worked for me. I'll then finish up by running an updated Malwarebytes scan and then an Avast! scan. Sarpedon "Who has time? Who has time? At the moment for Antivirus I'm trialling Avira Antivir - I found it mentioned on a malware removal site as one of the recommended ones, because it's lightweight but is antivirus, antispyware, antirootkit all in one. I'm using the free one which seems pretty good but does pop up annoying ads from time to time. I can't decide whether to stick with it or go back to AVG. AVG is a bit system heavy but hey it's also free and doesn't pop up annoying ads... plus if I remember correctly AVG scans incoming emails which Avira doesn't do in the free version.
