If I was madly in love with my soul mate, I couldn't let myself die and leave her alone for the rest of her days, and if my girlfriend told me she was going to sacrifice herself, even for 40,000 souls, I don't know if I could resist frantically breaking the pot and putting her ashes in the water. Perhaps this makes me a bad person... you be the judge. Do you agree, or are you all a little less selfish than I am? Thanks TaladarkieJJ for the keepership

Considering that I think the whole 40,000 souls brew-ha-ha was nothing but a forced plot, Gabrielle should have knocked Xena unconscious and dumped the ashes. Xena made a total ash outta herself. She would not have afforded Gabrielle the same luxury. And then Gabby is left babblin' incoherently on a ship. But I'm sure that was just sea-sickness. I mean, just sayin'. Thanks Nutty!

Choke, splutter! --- I don't know if I could resist frantically breaking the pot and putting her ashes in the water. Honestly... I couldn't either - damn the consequences. If we look at it from a FIN point of view, I would've dumped the ashes faster than Xena could spell her own name. And even if the 40K souls were trapped/doomed/whatever, with Xena back she would have figured something out eventually. Michael

They would definately have found a way to redeem the souls, even through Aphrodite or Eli or some other God thing. How often do we hear about Gabrielle being Xena's light to balance out her own darkness? They need each other, they are two halves that can never be seperated. Xena needs Gabrielle and Gabrielle needs Xena. They don't work without each other. xx

That whole plot to save the 40,000 souls was a bunch of hogwash to me. Especially when Akemi was to blame for the whole mess anyway. So, being that I have loved someone as much as those two love each other, there is no darn way in he** i would have done that to my lover/soulmate. If there was any possibly of correcting or curing, I would not let them go needlessly. If I were Gabrielle, I would have pushed Xena's hand away and dumped those ashes. She should have known after all of those years with Xena that they would have found a way to get those souls to rest in peace with Xena alive. I mean if my soulmate had to live with the guilt of all that she has done, wanted peace form it all, tired of every time they turned around, something from her past kept biting her in the arse, had nightmares about the things she did (After 26 years of doing good), would never accept redemption as long as she was alive, lived in fear that her past would cost me my life and was DEAD already and wanted to STAY that way, I think it would be VERY selfish on my part to bring her back after she asked me not to. So very true. I never was a believer of the OMX tag but the more I consider s5 and s6 the more apt it becomes. Back to the original question, the reality of the situation was so convoluted and contrived you can't really answer accurately because I can't think of a realistic comparison. Would I let me soulmate/lover die? Not if I could help it, but I can see situations where I could. But I'm going to say, yes. If it was my lover's wishes and I saw no way around it... Let's play devil's advocate here... Gab dumps the ashes, Xena comes back but she's so filled with anger at Gabrielle for not "obeying" her wishes that she never speaks to Gabs again... on the other hand, Gabs dumps the ashes and X comes back and is grateful... It really is a moot point now... I'm just sorry TPTB couldn't see it ya'll's way... They had to take the hollywood way out... which is one half of a lesbian couple must die. Most movies (especially in the 50's and 60's and on television) have the lesbians either both die, one dies, leaving the remaining person devastated, or they are bad guys whom people wanted dead anyway... watch a Doco called the Celluloid Closet. It speaks of all of this. But I really wish the Xena PTB had continued their trend of revolutionizing TV with Gab and Xena riding off both alive into the preverbial (sp?) sunset.
