Thanks for the news Zico4you! Renee is such a sweetheart.
If there is something in this life that you want to do, grab hold of the reins and take yourself for a ride, because if you don't you may miss out on some of the best experiences life has to offer! |

Thanks for the heads up zico. What a tragedy. My thoughts are also with all the relatives and friends of the victims.

Between that area not being covered by radar and being an area that has a lot of storms, flying between Brazil and Africa sounds dangerous. I agree with Horseredhead that Renee is such a sweetheart for posting a message about it. And like some here, I also thought how Renee was just there.
But she flew the opposite way to go home to the US.

I'm always nervous on flights.
If I got a seat next to Renee I'd calm down a little... well actually I'd probably be worse trying to think of something to say without sounding stupid and or obsessive. |

I was on a business trip to Brazil several years ago and, on the return flight, I looked out the left hand side of the plane and saw an enormous line of
thunderstorms. I could see the lightening flashes going off inside the clouds. It was one heck of a light show. Glad we didn't fly through any of the
clouds. In aviation we have a description of a thunder cloud (cumulonimbus) cloud that has a mountain peak in the center of it. It's called "Hard
Center Cumulus." We really stay away from those. The up and down drafts in a normal thunder cloud can be mind boggling.

Thanks for the headsup Zico. As others have commented, my heart goes out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives.
I've never been a nervous flyer at all, but I'm starting to get nervous about those Airbuses. Air New Zealand had one that crashed in the Mediterranean back in November last year. It had been leased to another company for a couple of years and was on its last test flight before being handed back to AirNZ. Because it was a test flight there were only 7 crew on board (5 NZers and 2 Germans I believe), so not on the same scale as the Air France crash but still sad. The weird part was that it went down without a mayday in clear weather and as far as I am aware it's still a complete mystery as to what happened. It makes me wonder if these aircraft have some serious design flaws. The news report at the time mentioned several other Airbuses that had major in flight instrument failures in the preceding 3 months, but thankfully those didn't end in crashes. My parents are in England at the moment and I'm finding myself hoping they aren't coming home on one of the Airbuses. |

Gabsfan wrote:People, have you ever take a look on statistics about car (not only car) accidents every year?? About the accident, we don´t know the real cause, not being cover from radar is not being considered one. Another information, this route is being use since the beginning of last century (20th or 30th with mail service) and this is the first accident with a plane of a commercial line. Velinho Burns ROC was IN RIO ...........
