Here in the UK, it is being aired on the Sky Movie channels until the end of July. Does that count as the Movie of (two) Months? I've sent MaryD an e-mail about the details, so it might appear in her Renée News section. |

I have a simple rule....
If a "critic" gave it 1 star, I will look at the film with interest (I may not watch it, but I will "look into" it further), because most of them wouldn't know a good film (or what the viewing public likes) if it bit them in the arse..... Most critics are supercilious and think of themselves as "highbrow" and have no connection with the people who will actually "pay" at the turnstiles to see a film. Their (the critics) opinion is only their own opinion and no-one else. Some films "panned" by the critics, are my favorite films... Some praised to the "high heavens", I would use the prints for kindling.... Make your own decision about a film, don't rely on a "so-called" critic. IMHO |

Sounds like a lawyer joke I heard once. Oh, never mind. Don't want to get started on that.

As a B-movie aficionado, I have verrry little use for movie critics
I remember George Lucas telling a story in the Making Of-feature on the American Graffiti DVD that one of the major newspapers (might've been one in San Francisco) gave that movie a very, very low score when it was originally rated back in 1973 - and, if I'm not mistaken, that movie is thought of as a super-classic today. Critics and I have very very rarely the same opinion. If there's a film or tv series I want to see (maybe because there's an actress or actor in it
that I really like

The one I like about critics is....
Q. What do critics and spermatozoa have in common? A. They both have a 1 in 50 million chance of becoming a human being....... |
