I live in LA, so getting there wouldn't be an issue at all. I really want to go to a convention, but I am a little hesitant to buy tickets since I am shy
and probably wouldn't want to participate in all of those social events. I don't know though... maybe I would end up having a lot of fun. I can't
decide whether I should go or not!
Spread the love.

I Think for the video contest you should email Adam from Creation, he'll tell you exactly what to do and what the format of the video should be for the
contest

hoursweeks wrote: Hi hoursweeks. There will be more ticket options available at a later date and the cheapest ticket option (General Admission) won't include the extra parties and stuff. Just admission to the convention to see the guests. So, if you want to go but don't want to feel like you have to go to the parties because it came as part of the ticket package, the other tickets might be the way to go. Conventions are a lot of fun. I'm not a huge social person myself but I had a blast the last two times I went, more fun than I thought I would. It was great being around other Xenites. ![]() XOC Forum Host, Graphic Artist and Technical Administrator

I am hoping to go but finances are tight right now. I'm hoping for a bit of a turn around. If I do go though it will be to concentrate on getting to know
other Xenites from the board. HW, if I make it, I won't let you be shy around everyone.
Take care

is it worth the price difference when you're not really going to participate in the social events? If that's the case, no, it isn't, unless you're no farther than row D. And remember that less people go to the night events if there's a Lucy's concert.

I am not overly active on this board, but I figured I would answer anyway.
My partner and I are going. We have been going to at least the annual
convention since 2001. I struggle with the "is the gold ticket worth it" debate every year, but since I am in the front row I haven't been able
to talk myself out of giving it up yet. LOL! Although, for the first year, my partner and I won't be sitting together because she doesn't think the
ticket is worth the price you pay...and it goes up every year without anything new added for the cost. So, she gave up her seat to one of our friends and she
will just buy general admission tickets instead. I almost forgot it was at a new venue this year, so I hope I still end up in the front row after the change!
Hoursweeks - I can completely relate to you. If it wasn't for my partner, I am not sure I would go either. I am pretty shy myself. It is a rarity for me to approach someone and I don't tend to invite myself into a group. I can barely do that here, online, much less in person! LOL!!!

hoursweeks wrote: I'm a very solitary, private person myself, and there are times that the mere presence of other people annoys the heck out of me. While I'm not going to the LAX Con (too far away, too costly), I did
go the the New Jersey XWP Con in Secaucus, back in June 2007. When I wanted to hang with people, I did-and when I wanted to keep to myself, I kept to myself.
You should go at least once; you're right in the L.A area, and you've got opportunities to see things that many XWP fans will never be able to see, due to distance and lack of money. Do it once, while you can.

I can't wait!! I with all the guests announced it will be a blast.
hoursweeks wrote:I was very shy at the last LA con it gets easier. In May i was loud and rowdy I felt that comfortable around people. Xenites are so nice and helpful you really have nothing to worry about. If you need help or want to hang out someone will sure to oblige and if you like your own space that's respected no one harasses you. I'd recommend either pref or day tickets that way you don't have to go to the organised parties and it won't cost you.

I think you should get the chance and go. It doesn't matter if you are shy, you'll have lots of fun when you are there

hoursweeks wrote: Go!! I did...alone...even though I was scared (I'm pretty shy too and not super social). I got a preferred pass, and I had the best weekend I've had ever in my life! I met scads of people, many of them at the TX meet-up and a bunch from just sitting down in the hotel lobby with a group of people talking about fanfiction. I just sat down in an empty chair and listened for a while...lots of people sat down to chat and left again...I learned later that maybe three or four of them were the bards of much of the fanfic I've read over the years. I got some good story recommendations, too, and one gal even e-mailed me some stories that are not available online any more. A couple of gals invited me to eat breakfast with them the next morning in the restaurant--I was eating alone so they invited me to join them (one of which I'd met the evening before in the lobby) and with her was a gal who lives in my state about two hours from me!! We hooked up and have been friends since! So take a chance!! You never know what might happen. And if you need someone to show you the ropes...well, I'll be there so we could meet up.
If there is something in this life that you want to do, grab hold of the reins and take yourself for a ride, because if you don't you may miss out on some of the best experiences life has to offer! |

It was a shame last Jan convention the Hotel Lobby was under construction I feel sad I missed out on all the socialising I'd heard about.

Sadly enough I wont.
I wish I could though. Oh well... 2010 is my goal. But
if I would be kidnapped by a friendly kidnapper that fly me across the Atlantic ocean and leave me outside where the convention is with a valid gold ticket or
whatever, I sure would go without hesitation. Sad part is that there's no friendly kidnappers.
