Saturday, July 19th at 16:10 (4:10 pm), Das Vierte is showing the Rockford-TV movie 'A Blessing In Disguise' Renee made back in 1995! - It's not a premiere, but I've never seen it before, so Laura Sue Dean, here I come! Well, any ROC project is a treat but this is a special treat. I think it's one of her best pre-XWP roles. Oh yeah, I loved her in that too, lostvoodoo. That's one of the characters I think of when I talk about how much I appreciate that even when she does play a victim, she's not a helpless victim. That girl she portrayed showed a strength even when she was being controlled by that guy. I haven't watched Blessing in Disguise in a while so I don't remember the exact words but I thought what Rockford said about Renee's character at the end fit the character and Renee perfectly. ~ Gabby Road ~ She walked with Xena. Funny you should say that, Dragonbard. In my OP I said it isn't a premiere, but after doing some thinking I'm suddenly not so sure. I seem to recall Super RTL was showing the Rockford TV-movies years ago, but perhaps that was the old show from the '70s. Michael

As we all know, Renee has a surprisingly rich voice, and the German dub doesn't quite capture that - it has a higher pitch and I think it's more 'girly', if you know what I mean. Personally I think it's OK. What's really confusing is when different actresses do the voice work in different films. I believe the actress that spoke Renee's lines in XWP retired after the show had been dubbed, so it's someone else on the Friend In Need D.C. DVD which came out later. Since the Rockford movie is from 1995, I guess there's a chance the voice talent is the same woman that did Renee in S1 of XWP - unless it's been dubbed/re-dubbed recently, in which case it could be anyone. It might be Lucy's voice! I was just thinking that if the person they use to dub Renee's voice is terrible at acting, people that don't know Renee might get a bad impression. - no, I don't think there's a risk of that. Usually, the adult voice actors are professionals, and I believe some of them are known in their own right. Michael

Do you mean that you heard from someone else that her german voice wasn't good or did you hear the voice yourself? 'Cause I really like her german voice, yeah I know it's not as good as Renée's original voice but it suits her in a way. Personally I think it's OK. You're right, her german voice has a higher pitch in comparison to Renée's but that changed in season 5, I think. I don't know why, it's still the same voice but it got a deeper pitch when Gabrielle became a warrior. You're right, Gabsfan, that closing dialogue fit Renee to a T. And indeed, there were several scenes where Laura Sue's dialogue had her talking about hoping to become the kind of actress and human being Renee herself turned out to be only a few years later - talk about (unintentional) foreshadowing. Renee always was a natural in front of the camera, and she displayed that again here. All the other cast members were veterans, but I felt she was able to keep up with them, and she didn't look out of place at all (well, I'm biased). ... while I was watching, I couldn't help but wonder where she would have ended up if she had decided against going to NZ for XWP. I'm glad she went, of course, as we got six tremendous years from that, but still... Michael

I told ya it was a great role and a great performance (as always). All this talk about it makes me want to pull out my tape and watch it. ... while I was watching, I couldn't help but wonder where she would have ended up if she had decided against going to NZ for XWP. I'm glad she went, of course, as we got six tremendous years from that, but still... Yeah, me too. That movie came out in 1995 so by then she was already committed to XWP. I wonder what she would have gotten after that movie aired if she wasn't already in NZ. But there's no denying that XWP really launched her career. The funny thing is, I remember those Rockford films and those films like Changes being on TV but I either didn't watch them or I didn't pay much attention to who was playing the roles other than the main stars. I even watched NYPD Blue regularly and most likely saw the Oscar Meyer Weiner ep she was in but I don't remember her. It wasn't until XWP that I sat up and took notice. I saw the light. I saw ROC. The funny thing is, I remember those Rockford films and those films like Changes being on TV (...) Over here we see tons of old and new US series and tv-movies on all the channels, but for some peculiar reason the things Renee are in are rarely seen, so they're all new to me. Changes was a bit too saccharine for my tastes, but Blessing is definitely a keeper. Oh, and the fake commercial for a soft drink (or whatever) that had Renee in a bikini... Laura Sue said she thought she looked like a twelve-year old. - not in my opinion! Michael
