My dog Rosco is very sick right now and may die. I took him to the vet monday for his yearly shots, and he was a happy and healthy almost 7 year old dog. Today he has a temp. of 105 and a half, 100 to 102 is the norm, and is shaky, lethargic, and breathing a little hard. I didnt notice any symptoms till Thursday night, and we bought him to the vet today. He has Immune-Mediated Anemia. Which is accelerated destruction or removal of red blood cells related to an immune response, in which the body produces antibodies against red blood cells. So his body is eating itself up right now. Not good. The mortality rate is 33.3% in dogs.
The vet gave him a shot to help reverse the process, and gave us Prednisolone which he needs to take for quite a long while and Amoxicillin. He needs to be kept quiet and rest. We are told to feed him boiled Chicken and white rice and he did woof that down so maybe thats a good sign, I hope. The next 24 hours are critical and we need to keep a close eye on him. His blood count is so low that if it goes any lower he'll need a transfusion.
Im quite upset as expected.
Please say a little prayer for my Rosco. We would both appreciate it.
