I have to go with Gabrielle. She let Xena die as per Xena's wishes in FIN, but Xena would not do that for Gabrielle in Legacy. Now this is not a debate about whether Gabrielle shouldn't have died in Legacy, or Xena shouldn't have died in FIN. Just a point made that Gabrielle did the ultimate sacrifice for Xena, which is something she did not return. Also, Gabrielle had to give up more to be on the road with Xena. Theres my thoughts, with the bard as the winner. <g> VISIT TALKING XENA

I kinda thought the opposite actually. In FIN, I've always thought that if it was Gabrielle, Xena would dump the ashes, therefore showing she puts her love for Gabrielle above everything else. Same in Legacy. So doesn't that make her love stronger? To be honest though, I don't know if I could say if either one of them loves the other more. I like to think they love each other equally. Same in Legacy. So doesn't that make her love stronger? IMO, no. I believe Xena would have dumped Gabrielles' ashes <which gives me a thread idea, thanks!> but she's doing that because thats what 'she' wants. That wouldn't be following Gabrielle's wishes as Gabrielle did with Xena's wishes to let her stay dead. Thats much harder to do. VISIT TALKING XENA

I too would like to think that their love is equal. In my eyes, Gabrielle seemed to make more sacrifices than Xena did, but lets weigh it up... Gabrielle: 1. Let go of the village life to learn to become the 'battling bard' alongside Xena. She left eveything that she knew - home, family, Potideia (sp?). 2. She was willing to sacrifice herself for the greater good in One Against an Army. 3. She kept Xena on the path of good. Without her, I think Xena would've remained either the destroyer of nations or given up fighting for good (as we see in sins of the past - burying her armour). 4. Had the courage to let Xena go in FIN, because she knew 40,000 souls depended on her decision. Xena: 1. In Sins of the Past Xena said she travels alone. She gave up her own life of going solo and let someone in. That's a big ask too. 2. Was always protecting her bard during battle. 3. One Against an Army - "If this is to be our destiny, let's see it out together". She may have fought it at first, but in the end she was willing to accept Gabrielle's wish to die (for the sake of protecting the village). 4. Stopped at nothing to find Gabrielle after she fell in the pit with Hope. I think their love was as strong as each others, they just showed it in different ways. TX New Member Posts: 51 (05/01/08 05:28 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hard to say, though I think because of Gabrielle being the poet and generally the more passionate personality, then I'd have to say Gabrielle. It reminds me of an interview with R.J. Stewart (I think it's for Ides of March) and he's talking about how if Gabrielle was a demon, because of her passionate personality, she would be completely evil and a total demon without any semblance of the opposite (being the compassionate Gabrielle we know) and I think that's portrayed fairly clearly in the way demon/'Linda Blair' Gabby taunts Callisto in hell with the memories of her family's death. Yet, in the same episode, Xena shows that she is a strong, unique personality that is not as polarized as Gabrielle's, and thus is able to break through her 'demon' persona to go and tell Gabby that she wants to spend eternity with her. If it were the other way around, Gabrielle would be too far gone to care, IMHO. I don't doubt that Xena would have dumped the ashes in FIN had it been Gabrielle, cuz in OAAA and Legacy she refuses to let Gabrielle die for any reason no matter how the bard justified it. Xena had a very protective, obsessive kind of love when it came to Gabrielle, but her own desires and her ability to see beyond Gabrielle's 'heroic nobility' in OAAA and Legacy showed that she never really could let go of what her heart wanted, what she as a human wanted. With Gabrielle...she truly sought to become the things she believed in: the poet, the peacemaker, the healer and since she believed in Xena and loved her so much, she in a way became Xena at the end, but still retained her ardent/restricted personality. I'm not saying that Gabrielle was in any way stoic, she was extremely emotional, but she was that way because of her nature. It's more like if she was born bitter, she would embody bitterness, born kind, she becomes compassion, born wicked, she'd exemplify evil etc etc. That said, it would be in Gabrielle's nature to love Xena more because it was in her personality to love fiercely. Sure, Gabrielle left her village and everything, but I don't think she did it for Xena at that time, but for herself, because she wanted to see more of the world. And as for the FIN thesis, I'm not convinced whether not dumping the ashes meant that Gab loved Xena more or less. It can be interpreted both ways, and actually it's so depressing I don't even want to think about it too much. As mentioned before, Gabrielle was a very passionate person, so it would be easy to assume that she loved Xena more. But I think Xena loved Gabrielle just as much. Like in Send in the Clones when Xena's putting the pinch on the guy and suddenly Gabrielle awakens. It's like the world stops for Xena when she realises that Gabrielle is there, and it's all that matters to her. It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. She couldn't live without her and she showed it pretty well, you see this everytime Xena comes close to losing Gabrielle like in "is there a doctor in the house?", no scratch that, you see it in EVERY episode lol and we also see how lost Xena is without her too like in "anvertures in the sin trades 1&2" (though I think either one couldn't live without the other lol) on the FIN thing...well since the beggining of the show Gabrielle was trying to help Xena find redemption right, well I think she let her die in FIN not just to do Xenas wished and for the greater good but also to acomplished it, in a way she did what she set out to do in the beggining...she helped her find her redemption.... but thats just me lol I agree with xxdecrepitxx here lol "Gabrielle left her village and everything, but I don't think she did it for Xena at that time, but for herself, because she wanted to see more of the world." yup totally

I think Gabriele could live without Xena better than the other way around (But I don't like to think of FIN as canon). Whether that means her love is greater I am not sure. Xena had many loves/lovers in her life and Gabrielle eclipsed them all, whereas Gabrielle had fewer. Maybe Xena was more aware how special their really relationship was. So, I've just taken a very powerful drug designed to combat male impotence is that the situation? What will it do to a woman? Where will it go? Even though it broke Gabrielle's heart into a billion pieces,that to me is not only brave but showed how much Gabrielle loves Xena.She gave up her best friend, lover,family her everything just so Xena can be at peace with her past.I agree Xena was more selfish with her love for Gabrielle.

It was just different, not one stronger than the other. Just my humble opinion. If there is something in this life that you want to do, grab hold of the reins and take yourself for a ride, because if you don't you may miss out on some of the best experiences life has to offer!
