Screwballs!
I remember these from when I was a kid. Basically, it was a small clear plastic 'cone' shaped container filled with raspberry ripple ice-cream and once you'd eaten all the ice-cream, you found a bubblegum ball at the bottom of the 'cone'. Used to love those.

Hi Tai, sounds good, I love raspberry ice cream.
I remember rocket pops, popsicles shaped like a rocket and multi-colored and flavored and of course who could forget the music they played. Tobias |

^^ Yeah, they were yummy and I still remember the tiny little spoon you got to eat them with as well.
Those rocket ice lollies bring back memories as well, also what was known as a '99'. This was/is (cos I think you can still buy them), an ice-cream cornett filled with vanilla ice-cream and pushed into the top was a Cadbury's chocolate flake. Also remember the gorgeous lemon flavoured ice lollies they used to sell as well and like you Tobias, I remember the music the ice cream van used to play. Whenever I heard it coming, I'd bug my mum for money to go and buy a treat.

We have Ice creams trucks floating around my area all the time where I live.. it's called "Mr Whippy". LOL I don't know why they called it
but after seeing Xena, I always thought "Mr Whippy" was quite provocate for an ice cream truck business on wheels :)

No ice cream trucks in small town Iowa. We did however, have a Tastee Freeze and I have great memories of hot fudge sundaes, pizza burgers... oops, not an ice
cream truck memory.

Enjoying everyone's ice cream truck memories!
We didn't have one in my neighborhood when I was a kid, but since I've been an adult we always have and I just love it. It makes me so happy to hear the music, and I love getting soft serve vanilla&chocolate with that cookie crunch coating. I love the song.. There's more than one song, but I've actually written lyrics to my favorite one. I've tried to find the tune but I can't, however I will share my song anyway. You might know the tune once you read the lyrics. Won't you come out of the house right now and buy some f-cking ice cream Won't you get dressed, just put on your closes, and buy the f-ucking ice cream Don't you think That you should Buy the d-mn ice cream! I always got either fudgesicles or ice cream sandwiches. Mmmmmm!!
There are still ice cream trucks that float around some neighborhoods near me and I'm in a suburb of Chicago. Nowadays that music drives me insane! Must be a sign of age??
If there is something in this life that you want to do, grab hold of the reins and take yourself for a ride, because if you don't you may miss out on some of the best experiences life has to offer! |

Long johns! They were about eight inches long and round and a mixture of orange and pineapple popsicle. Another treat were bomb pops. I can't describe
the way they looked but they were red, white and blue and the flavors were cherry, blueberry and 7-up. I absolutely loved them. Sadly by the mid seventies
the ice cream truck no longer sold ice cream in California. It was common knowledge that drugs were now being sold out of the trucks and children were no
longer near the ice cream trucks. It really sucked to take such innocense away from the children.
Take care

We have them here in Germany too. But they don't play music. They have a very annoying ringing sound. Or they just use their car's horn. But I never
had any ice from the Ice Cream Truck.
We live in a city with 30.000 people and we have like 4 or 5 Italian Ice Cream Palors all over the city. That brings me to a side question. A few years ago I talked with a friend who lives in Switzerland now. And she said: "The most thing I miss about Germany are the Italian Ice Cream palors." I couldn't believe that they don't have those in Switzerland so I asked around my international friends and all said: "Nope, no italian ice here" So how is it in your country? Where do you get our ice cream from if not from the supermarket isle? ![]() |

Hey Charlie! I live in New York City, so we have pretty much everything in regards to ice cream and Italian Ices--carts and cafes, small stores on almost
every block of the city. Family owned places, huge chains. We've got a million Baskin Robins ice cream stores, and Haagen Daaz stores, and Chinese dessert
shops, Carvel soft ice cream shops, all kinds of different carts and stands, and huge grocery stores (though not California-size!). You can get the same ice
cream for 50 cents or $5, depending on where you buy it and who you buy it from.

I really dont remember the ice cream I used to get, just the feeling when I heard the ice cream trucks music. What a high for a kid! I remember the frenzy when the truck came, running to the parents begging for money. I remember the race to the truck, and me and friends falling down once in awhile and getting a few skinned knees' here and there from running as fast as we could to get there. And I remember the pure joy of finally getting your ice cream after all that work, and enjoying every last drop. |

no ice cream trucks here. Haagen Dasz (sp?) open parlors in shopping centres & malls. Cold Stone & Cold Rocks too. and then Nestle ice creams can be
bought from the supermarket. but for a particular brand (it's 'Walls' here. i think in some parts of the world it's 'Streets'... i
think i've visited switzerland and it's called that way.) we got a man with a cart that he pushes with his tricycle which pedals would sound jingles of
he ice cream company. it's been the same jingle for the last 22 years so i don't think it'll change soon. but, you know, i'm el cheapo at heart
and though i love buying ice cream, i like to freeze fruit tea. fruit tea popsicle. niiiice.
ETA: cool! my 200th post!!
